Moving Tips
Summer is peak moving season. If you are flexible with your dates, consider moving on other than the first and last days of the month.
Call King's and specify the exact date you have decided to relocate and arrange for a visual survey so an estimate can be prepared.
Tour your home before the King's representative arrives and determine what is to be moved and what can be discarded.
lf you plan on doing the packing yourself, start collecting boxes and packing materials.
Take into account that self-packing is normally not insurable with the mover.
Obtain written appraisals for antique or other high-value items.
Compile a list of friends, contacts and companies who will need your new address.
Make TO DO lists and set goals and deadlines.
After your King's rep has seen everything to be moved, you will be provided with a written estimate as well as any other important information pertinent to your move.
Remember if you are moving in cold weather, articles such as plants and foodstuffs should be not be shipped on King's moving van.

Empty items from dressers, chests and desks. Blankets, towels and pillows may be left in drawers or packed in large cartons.
Use generous amounts of packing paper so no box rattles.
Books, CDs and canned goods should be packed in smaller containers while lighter items can be progressively packed in larger boxes.
Never overload a box and whenever possible, do not use newsprint.
Mark the top and sides of cartons with contents and destination location such as bedroom, kitchen or basement.
Fragile, irreplaceable or high value items should be packed by King's or moved by the homeowner.
Remove items from attics and crawl spaces.
Electrical equipment and appliances should have trays and shelves removed and be disconnected prior to the move.
Discuss the moving of your freezer and contents with your King's representative.
Tape or tie utensils such as shovels, rakes, and brooms together in bundles.
Arrangements should be made prior to moving day to have all fixtures, drapes and curtains taken down.
Swing sets and collapsible sheds should be disassembled prior to moving day.
Fragile items such as mirrors, glass tops and marble should be crated by King's specialists.
Water beds and aquariums should be emptied as should the fuel from lawn mowers and other household appliances.
If King's is looking after the packing, you will be provided with large wardrobe boxes which are ideal for hanging suits and dresses just as they would be hung in your closet. These containers are also ideal for transporting drapes and curtains.

King's van operator and team will be at your residence at the designated time ready to ensure your relocation is hassle free.
The team leader or designate will do a walkaround with you to ensure that (s)he understands what has to be done.
This is an excellent time to advise of any articles that you may require first at the new home.
King's relocation team will cover main corridors with runners to protect floors and carpets.
Any item that is not to be moved should be identified so it is not moved in error.
The van operator will identify the condition of goods to be moved and goods susceptible to damage will be padded for protection.
You will be asked to confirm the new address, as
well as the delivery schedule.
If possible, the driver and you should exchange cell numbers to facilitate any emergent issues.
Once loading is complete, you and the driver will do a final walk-around to confirm everything has been taken.

Proper packing is the most important thing that you (or your King's team) can do to save time, money and aggravation.
Disassemble items that need to be taken apart and carefully save any hardware involved. Often, lost hardware is virtually impossible to replace, so be very careful where you save it.
Computers and other electronic equipment should be disconnected and ready to move. CDs should also be removed and as a precaution all work and programs should be backed up.
Do not pack your took box as you may need some of your tools on move day.
Do not pack your checkbook or banking cards. Things may come up unexpectantlv that requires payment.
If you are putting your goods into either temporary or long term storage, do not pack important papers like passports, driver's licenses, birth certificates, or other important documents.
